Rail

It is sometimes said in reference to the Pitmen Painters that only miners themselves have given an authentic artistic portrayal of their work and daily lives. This I think also applies to the rail industry, certainly during more traditional times. I did join for a while, a well known society for railway art and percepions of the subject by the overwhelmingly non railway membership bore this out.
I worked at six depots in all: Old Oak Common, Aberystwyth, Leeds, Skipton, Machynlleth and Shrewsbury.
